Our Programs, Lectures, and Plans
The Torah Life Center brings outstanding, internationally renowned scholars and lecturers to the Washington area every month. These scholars are of different backgrounds, professions and orientations all involved with aspects of Jewish life and culture.
The lecturers' topics have run the gamut from Jewish survival to the Jewish approach to intimacy and mysticism to counter-missionaries. In most cases, it has been the scholar's first visit to the Washington community. These lectures have also been videotaped and sent to Satellite Centers in Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Hilton Head, SC and Pittsburgh, where monthly programs are held with the videos as the focal point.

These lectures have consistently attracted several hundred people each month. More importantly, they have brought together committed Jews with Jews that have never before attended a talk on a Jewish subject. Orthodox Jews wearing skullcaps sit side by side with secular college students in torn jeans. The special success of Torah Life Center has been to consistently find speakers whose appeal is universal.
The lectures have also had an astounding ripple effect. Some regular attendees have decided to join a synagogue. Others have decided to send their children to a Jewish day school. Still others have begun attending Jewish study classes. These ripples add immeasurably to the strength of the entire Jewish community.
Shoshanna Tita, director of Torah Life Center, grew up in Israel. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Cologne where she was also a professor of literature. She has lectured throughout the Washington community and in other cities.Recent lectures have been offered by Hadassah chapters, the UJA Federation, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Embassy of Israel, the International Association of Jewish Lawyers, and the American Jewish Committee.
The goal of Torah Life Center is to enlighten, educate and broaden understanding and spirituality of all Jews, no matter what their Jewish background or commitment may be. For more information call (301) 983-6975.
